“Serving others is to contribute in some way to make this world better”
Contamination is a very powerful word, though used negatively most of times: soil, mar, corruption, pollution. This words lead to the idea that someone/something with ugliness and/or illnesses is prone to infecting someone/something else.
Saying this word makes lot of people shivering, expecting a destructive term to follow. During one of my courses, I do admit it, I took advantage of this fact and after saying this decisive word, I left an empty space, I remained silent: participants, with their non-verbal behaviour, looked at me with inadequacy, with their furrowed faces… yet, no, the word coming after that was “GOOD”. Let’s contaminate ourselves with GOOD, that’s what I cried out. It was nice to see their faces and bodies loose, highlighted by their laugh that filled the room.
In my personal and professional growth I’ve realized the absolute importance of positive thoughts. Never ever, I told myself, I will have a single negative thought, I can’t afford it. The anxiety created by negativity is like and embryo, a very small one, but it enlarges in disproportion and becomes an autonomous organism taking over yourself.
That’s when meditation entered my daily life, 10 minutes a day to modify the quality of my thoughts.
At first, it was quite complicated and besides…where could I have ever found the time to do it in my fullest days? The smile of my children brightened me up; to taste the beautiful sensation of a father that sees his children grow up, I had to devote my attention to them… what better training for my mind but meditating to improve my concentration? I took my time and by and by I reached a very high level of focusing on healthy thoughts for my well being and that of other people. Energy pills that I’ve turned into positive formulas, in “mantras”.
Personal positivity for the benefit of others is a healthy contamination leading to higher level of common good. It starts from us, as representatives of positive thoughts, that will expand beyond the borders to follow the path of GOOD.
Awareness in listening, being, doing: we’ll become references of positive and healthy contamination that will help others to open up, follow and promote this path.
