Do you know who you want to be, what’s your final goal, your spiritual achievement? To answer these questions, you have to be aware of what your most important values are.
Values define what we think is important and show us which goals can be reached. Values are what people think is good or bad, right or wrong, desirable or not desirable, what must be done and what must be avoided.
Values are a powerful engine because they boost and support our meanings, beliefs, rules and behaviors.
If we are aware of what we treasure the most in our life, of our highest ideals, we can really fulfill our life and be satisfied.
If we are not certain about what counts to us the most, what are the things we are willing to fight for, how can we expect to take efficient decisions?
Any decision, for better or for worse, leads our life in a certain direction. Decisions depend on what we consider our deepest life values.
Most people never really think about their basic values, because most of our values are imposed by social conditioning, by our family teaching or by our friends.
The question is: are these values tailored on us? Do they help us living the life we really want? Did we go astray from the person we wanted to be?
When our values clash with our dreams and goals, our motivation plummets and we lack the feeling of a meaningful life.
Let’s think of the things we are not willing to lose and which values they stand for: in this way we can easily rank them and choose our essential values.
By doing this, we’ll be become aware of the real reasons behind our choices and habits. Now, we’ll be able to choose wisely if these are good or bad for us and, in case how to replace them with new healthy habits meeting our real values.
Now, here’s my exercise for you:
Make a complete map of the values that give you a unique identity and help you taking decisions based on the huge power inside you.
Once you’ve identified your identity, ask yourself:
What things do really matter most in your life?
What is your trigger in doing things?
What are the principles you want to follow to feel good and peaceful?
Write at least 10 values casually and then check the first with the second, identifying the most important one. Check the latter with the following value up to the end of the list to realize your main value to put on top it.
Clear values cast a light on the path to follow, values are the compass of your live, don’t lose your track!
