Run to walk

“Energy has no age”

As I was living my daily life, during a full business day, an old man drew my attention.

He could hardly walk, but making lots of effort managed to reach his destination, a bench not too far away from me. He sat down, breathing, looked around and after some minutes stood up and walked the same path again.

I was so curious that I stopped to watch him. Back and forth, always the same path, always taking the same time, for at least 100 times. Nearby, an other old man was busy riding his bike, same path again, back and forth.

After a while I decided to approach and talk to them. “Wow!”… they told me…” a young man interested in us. This is our training hour, we live in that block of flats opposite the park. Every day, at the same time we go out to get some exercise, walking or riding the bike. When we were young, we would have fun strolling through the city, we were so lively, we would always laugh and, as athletes, our friends wanted us to play with them.

Now it’s all gone, our friends are not here anymore and our idea of fun is something that makes us look crazy from the outside, isn’t it? We still have a great smile and some old lady in the flat still winks at us. We love life and to all you young people we always say: smile and be positive in life, take care of your body and mind, nurturing them with food and thoughts full of energy, feel the emotion while you’re working because it means you’re doing what you like.

Earn a lot of money, but remember to give some to those in need. Love your family and your friends. Believe in what you do and have faith, life is going to give you all you need and ask for.”

A tear of joy dropped on their cheeks and I felt a strong emotion all through my body. We embraced ourselves and I bade them goodbye because their nephews were calling them for supper.

It was a lucky day, because life gave me certainties and pleasure to share.

Living each day as it was our first, but never giving up on anything as if it was our last, will give value to each thought, word and action.
